What's in it

It starts with the track frames, travel piping, steps and handrails, then the counterweight and the exterior parts. The work equipment comes next: boom, arm and bucket, with the grease piping and wiring.

The final chapters cover air bleeding, hydraulic flushing and the fluid checks, followed by the final checks and paint touch-up before the machine is handed over.

Machines in this class usually go to quarries, large earthworks and mining. Crews use the guide on delivery and again when a machine is split to move to another site. The bleeding and flushing steps protect the pumps on first start, so don't rush them.

Table of contents

  • Track frames, travel piping, steps and handrails
  • Counterweight and exterior parts
  • Boom, arm and bucket installation, grease piping and wiring
  • Air bleeding, hydraulic flushing and fluid checks
  • Final checks and touch-up

Good to know

Read the whole guide before the machine arrives. It tells you how much room you need, what cranes and slings to have ready and which parts come separately, so nothing holds the crew up on the day. Then work through the steps in the order Komatsu gives them, and keep the torque values and fluid specs to hand as you go. Crews who do this work often print the step pages and the torque tables and leave the rest on a tablet. The guide also helps in reverse, when a machine has to be broken down for transport, because most steps simply run backwards. The final checks are worth doing in full and signing off, since they're your record that the machine was built correctly.

Before you buy

This is an assembly guide, not a repair manual. For troubleshooting and overhaul you'll want the machine's shop manual as well.
