What's in it

Section 10 covers structure, function and maintenance standards for the engine and cooling, the hydraulic pump, control valve, PPC valves, swing machinery, travel motor, final drive, undercarriage, work equipment and electrical system. Section 20 is the standard value table, and section 30 gives the testing and adjusting procedures.

Section 40 is where most mechanics end up. It's the troubleshooting, set out by failure code and then by mode: E-mode for electrical, H-mode for hydraulic and mechanical, and S-mode for the engine. Section 50 covers removing, fitting and rebuilding the engine-related parts, pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, undercarriage and cab. The circuit diagrams are in section 90.

The -8 machines have more electronics and KOMTRAX, so a fault code is often the first clue. This book takes you from the code to the cause.
