What's in it

After the general specs and fluids, section 10 covers structure and function for the transmission, final drive, tandem drive, front axle, steering, brakes, circle, blade, ripper, hydraulics and electrical. Section 20 gives the standard values, pressure checks, adjustments and troubleshooting.

Section 30 covers removal, installation and rebuild of the main components, and section 40 is the maintenance standards, with wear limits for each part.

Graders have their own wear points: the circle and its drive, the tandem chains and bearings, and the blade slides. The maintenance standards here tell you when those need replacing. It's a big book for a big machine, and it's useful for mine fleets and grader owners alike.

Good to know

A tip from shops that use these books every day: read the structure and function pages for a system before you start testing it. Knowing how the valves and circuits are meant to work makes the test results much easier to read. The standard values then tell you whether a reading is normal, borderline or out of spec, and the wear limits decide whether a part goes back in.
