What's in it

It starts with removed unit drawings, dimensions, transport, schedule, work space and tools. The chassis is positioned on a frame stand, and the rear and front axles and drive shafts go on. Then the rear and front tire and wheel assemblies, and the bucket.

After that come the cab, ROPS canopy, front lamps, handrails, muffler stack, counterweight, ladder and fenders. Then the brake line, piston pump and work equipment circuit are bled. The book finishes with greasing, setting the bucket positioner and boom kick-out, inspection and the first engine start.

Bleeding the brake line properly is a safety step on a machine this heavy, and the guide gives the right order. Dealers and mine contractors will use it for new deliveries and relocations.

Good to know

Crews who do this work often print the step pages and the torque tables and leave the rest on a tablet. The guide also helps in reverse, when a machine has to be broken down for transport, because most steps simply run backwards. The final checks are worth doing in full and signing off, since they're your record that the machine was built correctly.

Before you buy

This is an assembly guide, not a repair manual. For troubleshooting and overhaul you'll want the machine's shop manual as well.
