GEN00029-00 is the field assembly instruction for the Galeo HM400-1, the first generation of Komatsu's 40-tonne articulated dump truck.

Fits

HM400-1 from serial 1001. Empty weight is about 30,350 kg. The later HM400-2 and HM400-3 have their own guides.

What's in it

It starts with the removed unit drawings, dimensions, schedule and tools. Then the bare machine is positioned and the tire and wheel assemblies are fitted. The engine hood mirror and front cover come next.

The N2 gas in the front and rear suspensions is then adjusted, and there's a slinging procedure for lifting the truck. The last section gives the tail gate and payload meter specs, if fitted.

Suspension gas pressure affects both ride and stability when loaded, so it's worth getting right. Dealers and contractors use this guide on delivery and when a truck is moved by low-loader.

Table of contents

  • Removed unit drawings, dimensions, schedule and tools
  • Positioning the bare machine, tire and wheel assemblies
  • Engine hood mirror and front cover
  • Adjusting N2 gas in the front and rear suspensions
  • Slinging procedure
  • Tail gate and payload meter specs (if equipped)

Good to know

The order of the steps matters more than it looks. Some parts have to go on before others to leave room for tools or slings, and the final checks confirm everything works before the machine is handed over. Following the guide as written avoids having to take something off again to get at a bolt behind it.

Before you buy

This is an assembly guide, not a repair manual. For troubleshooting and overhaul you'll want the machine's shop manual as well.
