Komatsu Galeo D475A-5 Bulldozer Field Assembly Manual (GEN00012-00)

The D475A-5 is one of Komatsu's largest dozers and ships in pieces. GEN00012-00, from December 2004, is the guide for assembling it on site. It replaces the earlier SEAW005000.

What's in it

It begins with specs, precautions, the tool list and tightening torques. The build covers the undercarriage, tracks, pivot chamber oil, ripper and shank. Then it covers the blade lift cylinders and trunnions, blade assembly, the U-blade arm joint and blade installation. The counterweight, operator's cab, ROPS, ORBCOMM antenna and exhaust follow.

The later chapters are the ones that make this more than a bolt-up guide. They cover adjusting the potentiometer and blade tilt limit, checking the Superdozer auto-reset, setting track tension and fluids, greasing, the return filter and bleeding the cylinders. The cab checks, error codes and hydraulic circuit flushing come at the end.

Crews who do this work often print the step pages and the torque tables and leave the rest on a tablet. The guide also helps in reverse, when a machine has to be broken down for transport, because most steps simply run backwards. The final checks are worth doing in full and signing off, since they're your record that the machine was built correctly.
