A small engine like this can still have electronically managed fuel and emissions parts, and the troubleshooting is laid out to deal with that. Small-engine shops, dealers and owners of compact Komatsu machines will use it most. Typical work is hard starting, low power, injector and valve adjustments, and full rebuilds.
An engine book is most useful on the bench. Measure each part as it comes out, compare it with the limits in the maintenance standards, and you'll know what can be reused before you place a parts order. The torque tables and tightening sequences matter just as much on the way back together, especially for the cylinder head and the main and rod bearings. Before you strip an engine, it's worth running the tests in this book first. The checks in the testing chapter often show whether the problem is in the engine itself or in fuel, air or electrics around it. That can save a teardown. If it does need opening up, the service limits tell you which parts are still good.
