What's in it

You get general specs with engine data for each application, since output differs from machine to machine. Then comes structure and function with the maintenance standards, followed by testing and adjusting, which includes the fuel injection pump data and the troubleshooting. Disassembly and assembly follows, then the repair and replacement of parts.

It's the engine book only. Getting the engine out of a particular machine is in that machine's shop manual.

Engine rebuilders and fleet shops that run several of these machines get the most value, since one book covers the same engine across excavators, loaders, graders and dozers. Typical work is low power, smoke, hard starting, injection pump checks and full rebuilds.

Table of contents

  • General specs and engine data for each application
  • Structure, function and maintenance standards
  • Testing and adjusting, including fuel pump data and troubleshooting
  • Disassembly and assembly
  • Repair and replacement of parts

Good to know

An engine book is most useful on the bench. Measure each part as it comes out, compare it with the limits in the maintenance standards, and you'll know what can be reused before you place a parts order. The torque tables and tightening sequences matter just as much on the way back together, especially for the cylinder head and the main and rod bearings.

Before you buy

Check the engine plate for the exact model, -2 with or without the extra A. The machine list above is a guide, not a guarantee.
