A structural engine forms part of the tractor's frame, with the front axle support and transmission bolted directly to it. A non-structural engine sits in a chassis, as in a skid steer. The block and sump differ between the two, and this manual covers both. Skid steer loaders, compact tractors and small backhoes are the usual homes for these engines.
