John Deere 240, 245, 260, 265, 285 and 320 Lawn and Garden Tractors Technical Manual (TM1426)

Six tractors share this manual, and they pair up by engine. TM1426 gives each engine and each drive type its own section, so you work from the procedures for the tractor in your garage instead of a one-size-fits-all chapter. It's the dealer technical manual from John Deere's Horicon works.

Fits

240 and 245 (Kawasaki FC420V), 260 and 265 (FC540V), 285 and 320 (FD590V with fuel injection). The 240 and 260 have gear drive; the 245, 265, 285 and 320 are hydrostatic. Dated 01SEP96.

What this manual covers

Each section follows the same order: specifications, component location, schematics, theory of operation, troubleshooting charts, diagnostics, tests and adjustments, then repair. There are three engine sections, one per Kawasaki model, followed by a separate fuel injection section for the FD590V used in the 285 and 320. After that come the electrical system, the gear power train, the hydrostatic power train, steering, hydraulics and general miscellaneous repair.
