If you run a Case 880R wheeled excavator, this is the shop book that covers the whole machine, not just the engine. It's the factory service manual Case dealers worked from, laid out by series and section number, so you can go from a complaint on the job to the right procedure without paging through the whole binder. It suits an owner-operator doing their own repairs as much as a shop that sees one of these machines now and then.

Fits

Case 880R wheeled excavator with the Case 336BD four-cylinder turbocharged diesel (336 cu in, 15.8:1 compression, 2200 rpm rated, Bosch PES injection pump). It covers both production serial ranges: 6202128 through 6202226, and 6202227 and after.

What this manual covers

Engine specs, maintenance and lubrication charts and torque tables come first. Then engine diagnosis and tune-up, cylinder head, cooling and turbocharger work, followed by the fuel filters, injection pump and injectors. Because this machine rolls on wheels rather than tracks, you also get the torque converter, transmission, axle differential, planetaries and drive shafts, plus the air brake system, brake valve and the power steering valve. Hydraulics cover the pump, control valves and the outrigger, swing, hoist and crowd circuits. The last series handles mounted equipment: outriggers, swing gearbox, the boom and the cab heater.

Table of contents

  • 10 Series - General - engine specs, maintenance/lubrication, torque charts
  • 20 Series - Engine - diagnosis, tune-up, cylinder head, cooling, turbocharger
  • 30 Series - Fuel System - fuel filters, injector pump, injectors
  • 40 Series - Hydraulics - pump, control valves, outrigger/swing/hoist/crowd circuits
  • 50 Series - Steering System - power steering valve and diagnostics
  • 60 Series - Power Train - torque converter, transmission, axle differential and planetaries (by serial break)
  • 70 Series - Brakes - air system, brake valve, brake shoes and wheel cylinders (by serial break)
  • 80 Series - Electrical - wiring harnesses, batteries, starter, alternator
  • 90 Series - Mounted Equipment - outriggers, swing gearbox, E/Y boom, cab heater

Check before you buy

Several axle, planetary and brake shoe procedures are written twice, once for each serial range, so read the serial plate on the side of the engine above the cranking motor before you start. The scanned front cover carries a leftover "1150L Crawler Dozer" label from the binder it was copied from. Every section inside is headed 880R Excavator, so the content is correct.
